Such a beautiful and endearing ode to poetry, most rare. I have read a similar ode to poetry by Malayalam Poet, late Changampuzha Krishna Pillai.

Wow! This is such an expertly woven piece like no other...betraying sweetly romantic prejudices until the last line drops the bombshell. Your immense penchant for nifty poetry somewhat closely rivals mine...Kudos!

Marvelous poem. Suspense is kept until the very last word. Congratulations on having it selected as poem of the day on January 6 for three consecutive years!

The opening two lines made me think of a May-December romance, then It went out of my mind as the images of an almost perfect relationship started piling up. I read those lines almost as if it were a check list of a charming and successful rapport. And I took your words in the spirit I believed they were meant - the truth about a long and successful relationship. Just before you reveal it was your love affair with poetry, something clicked inside me. So I was momentarily prepared for your disclosure. And considering poetry goes back at least three to four thousand years, it is a May-December love affair for all of us. But age is not the issue. Belonging to a living vibrant tradition of the poetic craft is, and you definitely belong. Your sincerity and yes love of poetry is clear. (Are you holding a pale mask of your face or is that someone next to you in the photo? That image would make a striking metaphor in one of your poems!)

At first glance the author seems to be conveying a normal love story with normal ideas about love. You occupied my mine, you conquered my heart blah blah blah. What makes this poem different is that it is talking about poetry in itself. It pays tribute to how poetry has helped the author grow up and how much much it is cherished in the authors life. It is interesting to think that the author is in love with the own substance (poetry) that they created. Stereotypical ideas of love that are applied to something only alive in the authors mind. The twist at the end is the only thing that makes this poem worth reading because the rhyme sceme is sketchy and the imagery has been used to often to evoke an intense feeling. Does not inspire you to make drastic changes in your life; it inspires because people can identify with and appreciate the great work of art that poetry is.

Reading the poem I thought this is one luck guy and one beautiful love story. In the ending seeing such love for poetry is a tribute for this wonderful writer and to her poem.

I KNOW I know the crease beneath your eyes I know your lips your brow your chin I know the hair that clothes your head I know the surface of your skin I know the rhythm of your breath I know your movements when you sleep I know the moment you awake I know the promise I will keep I know when you cast off the world I know when sorrow's at your door I know when secret tears you shed I know my power to restore I know the verse birds sing at dawn I know the setting of the sun I know the light cast by the moon I know my pure love is legion
