Unrequited Canvas Poem by Alexander Romanov

Unrequited Canvas

A family dinner at my place
On the desk before me lies a sheet so white,
A canvas for my imagination to take flight.
Untouched and blank, it calls to me,
To draw something, to create, to see.

With pencil in hand, I begin to sketch,
A portrait of someone, without a stretch.
But as I draw, I cannot help but feel,
Something is amiss, something not quite real.

The eyes that stare back at me,
Hold a sadness, a deep mystery.
And though I drew you with care and grace,
I couldn't capture your love or your face.

Dream girl, you left me here alone,
On this empty night, far from home.
I drew you, I drew you,
But your love, I never knew.

Still, my love for you won't fade,
Even though you're with someone new, unafraid.
I draw you still, with all my heart,
Believing fate will bring us back to start.

As I paint your image, you come alive,
And your smile is the light that helps me survive.
But you tell me softly, with a gentle plea,
To let you go, to set you free.

Dream girl, you left me here alone,
On this empty night, far from home.
I drew you, I drew you,
But your love, I never knew.

Still, my love for you won't fade,
Even though you're with someone new, unafraid.
I draw you still, with all my heart,
Believing fate will bring us back to start.e tonight,
