comment part 3 The title of the poem is Judged by the Company One Keeps and is found on page 480 of the book mentioned before. It is actually all in one stanza, and I will try to include the whole thing in part 4 of the comment (maximum is 300 characters) .

(Comment continued, part 2) You have done a very good job of remembering this poem. The first stanza is slightly different from what I remember, but the second stanza you MAY have word for word! I remember the first line went more like this: One night in late October, when I was far from sober... and then there was a second line that ended with " manly pride" . Once again, great job in remembering as much as you did!

I have this poem in a book printed in 1936, The Best-Loved Poems of the American People. I just had this book in my hand a day or two ago, and now it seems to have disappeared. When I find it I will let you know the title.
