I like your word choice! I felt like I was reading Lovecraft or Howard: damp, foggy, 'residence of more permanent despair' What in your life has happened to cause such dread (if you care to tell) or are you experiencing a bout of general depression?

'Sometimes, when waking from such dreams, it is difficult to distinguish between the heart-pounding nightmare seemingly ceased and the accustomed sense of dread one has long learned to accept.' It takes one a lot of sufferings and rough blows to be able to get accustomed to such nightmares.. A very poignant and wonderful write... Thank you...

Horrendous dreams as an aftermath of distressing realities do give terrible feelings. However, it is better to realize that as dawn follows night one's grief too is bound to be replaced by joyful things sooner or later. Optimism will definitely pay. Thanks for sharing.10 points.
