Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
...
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
...
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
...
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
...
The free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
...
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:

Writing a poem is not about bringing some words together to create some charming sentences. It's so much deeper than that. Writing poetry is a bridge that allows people to express their feelings and make others live every single word they read. Poetry is to educate people, to lead them away from hate to love, from violence to mercy and pity. Writing poetry is to help this community better understand life and live it more passionately. PoemHunter.com contains an enormous number of famous poems from all over the world, by both classical and modern poets. You can read as many as you want, and also submit your own poems to share your writings with all our poets, members, and visitors.
Was never form and never face
So sweet to SEYD as only grace
Which did not slumber like a stone,
But hovered gleaming and was gone.
Beauty chased he everywhere,
In flame, in storm, in clouds of air.
He smote the lake to feed his eye
With the beryl beam of the broken wave;
He flung in pebbles well to hear
The moment's music which they gave.
Oft pealed for him a lofty tone
From nodding pole and belting zone.
He heard a voice none else could hear
From centred and from errant sphere.
The quaking earth did quake in rhyme,
Seas ebbed and flowed in epic chime.
In dens of passion, and pits of woe,
He saw strong Eros struggling through,
To sun the dark and solve the curse,
And beam to the bounds of the universe.
While thus to love he gave his days
In loyal worship, scorning praise,
How spread their lures for him in vain
Thieving Ambition and paltering Gain!
He thought it happier to be dead,
To die for Beauty, than live for bread.

I've come by, she says, to tell you

I sit on the couch watching her arrange
her long red hair before my bedroom

she pulls her hair up and
piles it on top of her head-
she lets her eyes look at

Surrounded by mountains, beside a quiet river,
There lies a valley filled with peace.
A few small houses, plain in their colors,
Rest among fields where cattle wander free.
The people live with gentle hearts—
Strong, healthy, and wise in simple ways.
They trust in their hands more than machines,
And live close to the rhythm of the earth.

When night descends, sleep wraps the dreaming eyes,
Where red and blue-winged fairies softly play;
Through realms of sleep our boundless spirits rise,
Where silver moonbeams sing the dreams away.

That melted to the summer skies.

It was Christmas twenty-fifty and Santa sighed in deep dismay,
The climate had changed twice since his first Noel Day.
He'd survived rising temperatures throughout "Medieval Times, "
And the cold of the "Little Ice Age" of 15th Century climes.

Like an orchestra, I'll compose delightful tones in your presence
Like a poet I'll manipulate words to blissfully describe your smile
Like a sculptor I have carved out your black toned behind
Like a worthy sculptor I have shaped out our future into perfection

I. The Unchained Sky
Fly, Shuk Bird, fly—thy chains I've loosed today,
Beyond the walls where greed erects its spires;

I dwell
In the absence
You left behind

If you die before me
I would jump down into your grave
and hug you so innocently
that angels will become jealous.

Indoors by technology, outdoors by speedy transport
I travel the world
Today in Japan, tomorrow in Rome,
Next day by an ancient civilization or in Hawaii or Coast Ivory,

They are offering me a free dwelling
Without having to conquer

Wrapped with gratitude,
Offered to peace prone people
Who offer what is real-themselves
