Ukraine Russia War- Save Ukraine From A Sad Christmas Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Ukraine Russia War- Save Ukraine From A Sad Christmas

No one wants a sudden thunderstorm
no one wants the rain to fall
no one wants to get wet and soaked;
no one wants the winter to freeze them
no one wants the snow to chill them
but no one expects endless tragedies
no one expects continuous hardships
no one waits so anxiously everyday
no one waits for the war to finish them;
no one waits for an old year agony not to diminish,
no one waits for peace for so long
but they have been waiting…
they have been waiting to get back home
they have been waiting for a goodnight sleep
they have been waiting for family re-union
they have been waiting for Christmas
as they have seen only gloom
they have seen only bombs and explosions
they have seen only bullets and gunshots
they have seen only injuries and hospitals
they have seen only deaths and burials
they have seen only smoke and fire
they have seen utmost cruelty and ruthlessness
they have seen bodies strewn on the streets;
they have seen atrocities for months and days
they have seen inhumanity consistently;
what more will they wait to see
what more will they pray and ask
what more will they hope and not get
what more will they look and not forget
what more will they expect and not forego?
It is a war that plays the game
it is their anguish that vibrates the fame
but it is their country that has held its identity
it is their patriotism that has lasted so long
it is their courage that has brought them so far
yet they ask - when will the war end
or will it never end at all
and they silently weep as they fall asleep
for all that is lost, for all that is left
and for all that they will still lose.
