Ukraine Must Win Back Its Freedom And Justice Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Ukraine Must Win Back Its Freedom And Justice

Don't go by war, with war and in war
for forever you will grudge and keep on fighting
to gain your victory and your futile goals.

Don't go by brutality, with injustice and in vengeance
for no one wins without many losses
as hostility and hatred has its own repercussions
which both countries have to face in the endgame.

Don't go by bombings, with guns and in tanks
for the world is always a peaceful place
but to defeat the enemy you have created
becomes your own tedious effort and a waste.

Don't go by thirst, with hunger and in quest
for dreams last only until the eyes are asleep
but once the number of deaths and debris you see
how your voice does not scream aloud with guilt?

Don't go by Ukraine cities, with Kyiv, and in Maripoul
for these are not cities to be burnt or destroyed
but they are homes of people who have to live
and take care of their future generations forever.

Don't go by mercilessness, with killings and in cruelty
for the life once lost creates many wounds on those hearts
that silently weep and grieve incessantly
but there must exist also forgiveness and a chance for peace
as tomorrows of life have many more promises to keep.

Don't go by enmity, with revenge and in inflexibility
for those families and children
of Ukraine long for their homes
but the truth of time must not delay what can be salvaged
by reconciliation and humanity
as Ukraine has to win back its paradise
and live in freedom and justice once again.
