I was there in 1990
in Rahima, Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia;
there were families rushing in
with their cars, coming in from Kuwait,
they were asking for shelter
for a place, even a room to sleep in,
they looked so tired and hungry;
they kept knocking at every gate
of every compound wall
I could see them, they were families from Kuwait
running away from an invasion;
everyone was engulfed in fear
as bombs kept falling everywhere
and oil wells were set on fire in Kuwait,
the television set was broadcasting about
the attacks on people in Kuwait;
everyone was fleeing from there
going in any direction, some of whom
drove into Saudi Arabia as
everything looked so grim back home in Kuwait;
I was standing outside my apartment
holding my newborn child
worrying, unhappy and afraid.....
Suddenly, the US Troops arrived
and took charge of the situation,
it was the American President who rushed
the Army to support and defend Saudi Arabia
there were American Troops everywhere
we felt protected and secure and safe,
there were anti scud missile installations
at strategic points everywhere
in the Arabian desert;
The American President even sent out troops
to Kuwait to resist and oust the invasion.
That brave American President who
stopped a Dictator from destroying Kuwait
and its neighboring countries
was President George H. W. Bush for whom
I hold great respect and reverence
for it was he who invited the coalition forces
from all over the world to join and combat
the invasion of Kuwait by Iraqi soldiers.
Today Kuwait is a country prosperous
and peaceful, vibrant and independent
because of one American President
who took the decision to go to War
against Iraq in 1990s and that War
was called the Gulf War-
Operation Desert Shield-Desert Storm.
I was there at the Rahima Academy- American School
witnessing with pride the strength of courage
and determination of President George H. W. Bush
in uniting all the Allied forces to liberate one country
called Kuwait and Kuwait is today a free nation
because of a President called George H. W. Bush!
