Two Hearts Beat Poem by Amber Piercy

Two Hearts Beat

Two Hearts Beat

Two hearts beat the same pattern, but they don't unite
One half is black and one half is white One half bleeds while the other vain runs dry
A moment is born and a child does cry

Two hearts beat the same pattern, but they don't unite
One side is wicked and wrong while the other is right
One half is ugly and sharp and will cut you quick
One person catches a cold and the whole nation gets sick

Two hearts beat the same pattern, but they don't unite
One half is lifeless and gray and the other is full of light
One side is broken, but the other half is strong
Just to become outcasted all along

Two hearts beat the same pattern, but they don't unite
One side is kind while the other holds spite
But despite their differences they choose not to fight
For once they become one they fit together just right
