Rating: 4.5

We made it from the ground-up corn in the old back pasture.
Pinched a scent of night jasmine billowing off the fence,
popped it right in.
That frog song wanting nothing but echo?

don't think i'd read this one before by naomi. and i had to start again after the first read. how do we deal with " the sorrow" ? from her own life's memories and vocabulary, she satisfies, as usual, with a recipe of sensory images in a brief poem. -glen

That did it! I am going to be reading more by this poet. She can write in the most simplistic level except it really isn't simple at all, it is a growing evolving complexity that she's drawn us in on.

Powerful writing. A montage of nostalgic fragments, given to us with a shared sense of familiarity, building a sense of collaboration. How powerful this is, the contrast of the lengthy, extended metaphor with the brevity of the nod toward sorrow and lies, barely mentioned as if this is another shared experience requiring no explanation.

Excellent making of poetic art by words. Emotion followed intelligence. So brilliant the work, so hard such work...appreciate poet by heart. A great piece of art indeed. ...Noticed the clouds while stirring. Called upon our ancient great aunts and their long slow eyes of summer. Dropped in their names.... Unique.
