Truant, Pretending Innocence Poem by james watkin

Truant, Pretending Innocence

No one so aloof
As this world above
Howled of cares about
Sits, smiles; but thou.

A hare-stepped truant
Boy-streak, of school age
A village-backed hill
O'erhung of now.

On his simple fare
Of wholemeal bread, cheese
Who, munch-munch, just acts
Like one more cow.
