Barry, I'll comment on your poetic form; loved the couplets, and descriptive language. We're taught not to overuse the I, but in this case, it was perfect. So personal, to the point, and really displayed your personal growth as a man. Terrific!

Thanks Marianne. I think the poem rather reflects luck than growth. I was born in a place and time filled with hate. I managed to escape thanks to my mother teaching me right and wrong.I have tried to do what is right, that's all.

Brilliant, Superb and amazing....I may fall short of adjectives to describe the beauty of this poem... We have so many expectations from life and people in our lives but they are hardly met. and finally we start to find them coming true only in our dreams.......10++++

Thank you Mohammed. I grew us in the southern USA in the 1960s surrounded by bigotry, hatred and violence. I was not threatened because of my white skin but emotionally I was scarred for life. I turned it to the good and have fought all my life for equality. Sad to say the world has not changed much but there has been some progress. My peace of mind is within but I continue to fight for justice for as long as I have breath. I still have a dream.
