Citizens of Mumbai,
Celebrities and activists,
Continue to raise their voice
In spite of heavy rains in Mumbai.
They shouted and protested:
"Hug Trees Not Chop Trees".
People expressed their outrage
Against the cutting of Aarey trees.
With protests and pleas,
With banners and placards,
The Mumbaikars braved the wet spell,
Marching from Marine drive to Chowpatty
With a strong message to the state authorities,
To save the green environment and its species.
A tree is an unerring witness,
A witness who perceives the truth,
A bundle of secrets,
A personification of wisdom.
A silent spectator!
A tree cut is a truth erased,
A vital green wiped out,
A secret closed forever.
Let us hug the trees with love,
Instead of chopping the trees
So cruelly and callously,
So foolishly and heartlessly.
Such words of wisdom fill the lines of your poem. The cutting down of trees is happening on a grand scale in the United States too. I enjoyed your poem. : -)

The most valuable assets of the nature and it’s most beautiful ornaments are trees. You have captured this most poetically.
geeta, it's interesting to read this today as this morning i read again psalm 92 which compares people who respect God to palm and cedar trees. and how often i've thought that trees with uplifted branches resemble people praising. long have we associated trees with people and spirits. it's easy to see our kinship. you might like my poem " cottonwoods of corrales." -glen
