Tree 14 - The Magnificent God Tree Comments

Among all His creations I feel trees and plants are very special for all living beings. And I quote: Gently breathing the vital air of fresh oxygen into The body, Softly whispering the mystical messages into The Ears, Showering the world with its pretty red, pink, yellow Flowers. geeta, the first experience i had in my life that i recognized or thought of as spiritual was when i was sitting outside and saw, as if for the first time, a tree as a living being. often in summer as i walk around a nearby park in the early morning cool and as the sun is just breaking and the trees cast their long shadows i glimpse the being-ness, the personalities of them. and i notice the soft green hills and see why people think of the earth as mother, as feminine. two references to trees in favorite poems of mine are in a sonnet by e.e. cummings where he refers to the leaping greenly spirits of trees and to the entire poem called trees by joyce kilmer, which i encourage you to look up if you don't already know it. trees- they do so much for us, mean so much for us. glen

Hi Geeta, Three points: 1. Your idea that trees are God's most important blessing/bounty to the world for all creatures is fantastic; appreciated. 2. However, your metaphor likening leaves as eyes of God/trees is something that did not gel! The God Tree would look at The Humans, With its ten, hundred, thousand kindly, Eyes, Green blue eyes, tender, with lovey-dovey Leaves! ? ? ? Leaves have a cache of different functions. But none of them is seeing/feeling/touching (but for a thottavadi/touch-me-not) , I believe. So, my words exudes a li'l sarcasm here. If it pains you, I am sorry; I did not intend to... 3. Your lines: Gently breathing the vital air of fresh oxygen into The body, And, Showering the world with its pretty red, pink, yellow Flowers, Offering sweet, juicy fruits with warmth of its abundant Love, Spreading its wings far and wide, with its million Seeds! are real gems. They attracted me so much that. I have expressed one or two of your ideas in my words in stanza 3 of my poem response. When you are borne as tree In a thousand hues you'd smile! - referring to flowers, fruit and seeds expressed in different colours. Of corse I left out other features of them- like fragrance of flowers and the utility of fruit an d seeds as the life-sustaining food-stuff for all life-forms on earth.. and Of hemlock you'd drink, like Siva So the world lives on.. - referring to how trees consume CO2 just to give out vital Oxygen. 4.The following of Your lines are real poetry: Softly whispering the mystical messages into The Ears, This metaphor of dhalamarmarangal to whispers of mystical messages is par excellence. 5. And photograph of deer park of Delhi-leaves a tinge of nostalgia in me.. May be in my wife too.. During 1987-89, immediately after our marriage, we were in Delhi for about two years. Our days in Delhi- the springs of 1988 and 1989 in the deer park, Lodhi Gardens, Buddhajayanti Park.. etc and our visit to Moghul Gardens are most memorable... Thank you Geeta...
