во время бомбардировок Косово

Авель был первым человеком,
от которого Брат отрекся,
а имя 'Hevel' переводится словами
пар, туман, суета.

вечером
или утром, но,
с высоты в десять тысяч футов,
посыпались бомбы.

это случилось, и пар
клубится cреди развалин.
солдаты, танкисты
бредут по дорогам,

десятки тысяч беженцев,
неполные семьи,
и женщины в шлепанцах,
и с босыми детьми,

с корзинками, одеялами,
с пожитками, сбережениями,
которые у них всегда отнимают
мародеры по случаю.

такое уже случалось под Солнцем,
и в новостях это было,
на голубых экранах все видели это,
и устали органы зрения, органы слуха.

хотя мы, по-прежнему,
к фестивалю свободы
готовим наших детей,
и памятники украшаем.

а ты, ты - тот, кто
посылает с Неба на Землю
дожди и туманы,
что думаешь ты?

like mist from ten thousand feet
above the hills bombs fall
like vapor the thin air
is full of them
roads crawl with tank soldiers
like mist tens of thousands
of refugees cross the border
like vapor from morninig to dusk
unmanned families
like mist women in slippers
children in bare feet
like vapor carrying blankets
suitcases of clothes
like mist money
ripped off by border guards

Not new under the sun
not new on throbbing bluelit screen
but the eye tires of seeing
the ear of hearing
oh we still prepare our feast
of liberty and memory
we remain your children

And you, you-
father of rain
what are you thinking
