Torvill and Dean: Diablo Tango
Both Jayne and Chris are dressed up to the nines -
Telling a story: one without spoken lines;
Wearing elegant attire from the 1920s,
There are thrills and spills and high-jinks aplenty.
It's the classic story of a guy and a gal,
With the guy wanting to be so much more than a pal;
That she's not interested, it's perfectly clear,
But Chris, as the guy, he still perseveres.
Jayne, as the gal, keeps resisting his advances,
But Chris, as the guy, keeps on taking his chances;
Anger and rage, the gal frequently feigns,
But the guy's love for her, steadfastly remains.
Jayne's luscious lips, the guy's keen to kiss,
But she's not impressed, and so firmly resists;
Over his mouth, she holds a gloved hand -
His romantic advances, she's keen to withstand.
The accompanying music is playful in style,
And, watching their antics, you can't help, but smile;
A cymbal, a bell, a whistle and rattle,
All help to animate their comical battle.
The pace of the piece is furious and fast,
And our skating couple look like they're having a blast.
Both Jayne and Chris perform some terrific tumbles,
With Chris also adding some comical stumbles.
On his backside, she pulls him along:
His romantic intentions going seriously wrong!
His arms and legs are frantically flailing,
And his once perfect plan, is rapidly failing.
It's a routine full of mischief, frolics and fun:
Like the part where the guy pretends to bite the gal's bum!
A look of mock horror appears on her face,
And, straightaway, she begins to give chase.
The routine ends with Chris sprawled on the floor:
He's decided not to bother the gal any more;
After numerous attempts, he has admitted defeat,
And, by the look on Jayne's face, victory is sweet!
