Torrential Rain- A Gift Or A Curse? (Tanka)

TORRENTIAL RAIN - A GIFT OR A CURSE?
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
torrential rain
a gift that causes much pain
blame man in the main
city's over-flowing drains
land slides, kill, in poor terrain

floods In big rivers
kills many - can be a curse
nothing can be worse
bridges vanish- upkeep farce
tragedy's wounds- tough to nurse

fresh water bounty
to store and use when thirsty
crops need in plenty
don't fight-share with equity
our buildings-need quality

better world is right
within reach, in.our foresight
to rid people's.plight
Sir MV's vision had might
Sad, no such.men.in our sight

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is rainy season in India. In Mumbai, I am watching, with amazement, torrential rain, for last few days. The usual building collapses, bridges getting washed off...people dying -these are commonplace. It shows man utter disregard for fellow human beings and other life forms too! Sir M Vishweshwarayya was an enginneer with great vision - who built many dams and lakes about 100 years ago- they are serving people wonderfully. Now there is much water politics and poor construction quality and upkeep. Nobody seems to care!
