Torn In The Silence Poem by Clare Murgor

Torn In The Silence

There were fast footsteps towards me
Then slower and silent, no one was there
Voices right from behind me
Then total silence
But was I a fool to ignore the silence
The silence that cut through me alive
There I was though
No panic attacks like before
Even when the lights went off
I was still
And the houseflies walked with me to my shame
Spiders built webs under my armpits
Sores began to form in my body
And cracks on my skin
My face, , beautiful as sunset
I could not tell what was of the rest of me
I was dead, dead with a heart beating
Beating yearning for life
Yearning for the lights again
