Tomorrow Opens In The Wall Of What You Know Poem by Grant House

Tomorrow Opens In The Wall Of What You Know

Tomorrow opens
In the wall of what you know
A stairway of stone
The unknown and unknowable
Hidden from view

More than trust will take you there
A kind of creative calling
Pulls you in
Illuminates the way
Up those stairs carved from rock
Beyond the reach
Of yesterday's tentacles

Through the wall and up
Toward your higher purpose
The one you spoke about
With your friend at lunch
The one that occurred to you
A moment after doubt left you immobilized
When you first noticed the light
Spilling from the wall of your certainty

The golden light
Invites you to step in and step up
To find yourself
On the other side
And never once think to look back

Today was the bridge you had to cross
The path to tomorrow, an arched staircase in a wall stacked with stones called reality
Comfort
Predictability
The ways things are
The way things have always been

Walk through that wall
Emerge in the future you have been living for
Or, just stand there
Look at it in the darkening evening
Then walk on

The futures you might become
Depend on you to bring them to life
Your calling
The voice of your future self
Beckons without words
Quietly whispering
Over here
Over here
A new world is waiting for you
The light is your beacon
The stairs
Your way to your new home

Now who would you like to be
When you get there?
