when we shop, we buy the toddler size
(only because you're too big for newborn)
yes, you passed that stage hours ago.
now you're happy; now you're lurching around corners
holding onto the doorjambs or the chairs
or whatever happens to be in the way.
and you look up at me and smile
and i have to smile back (hey, blue eyes)
'cause you're cute, just like your daddy.
the spirit stretches between the two of us
even though we're apart most of the time
but that doesn't count 'cause thought's what matters.
so you smile again, and laugh
you hear noises from the other room
wave bye-bye and toddle off.
looks like toddler size may be too big.
