I send my daughter to a school
Where praying is against the rule.
To say the pledge and mention God
Invokes a path no longer trod.

Good poem Joe. I sometimes think this world is going bonkers too, and it's scary.

A brilliant write dear Joseph. I echo your sentiments here. Guns, violence, sexual freedom, and whatever detriments to society do not belong in the schools. Nor anywhere for that matter. Schools are for learning and not violence.

If the subject wasn't so serious this would be a brilliantly funny poem. It's when you come to the last verse that the message hits hard. This approach is one way of taking matters to the authorities. It might just make them sit up and take notice. Regardless of the content, the rhythm and rhyme are well nigh perfect.

Too much freedom at any age Can be bad and retrograde The kite that flies up above so free Depends on the string that guides its destiny So the rule enforced should always be Schools as temples of only learning free.......... Sad poem. I hope the law makers take note

Very well written poem, my friend. The worries about what is happening in schools are very much justified. I was writing a poem on 'intimate freedom' (on my third page, number 50) for my sons. I hope they manage to live up to the important message in our poems.

I can sense the agony of a father in these lines. Educational institutions should be centres of formation besides being centres of information. Unfortunately no training in life is given these days! Each sees life as a time for mere enjoyment. At a tender age, instead of teaching children the values of tolerance and love, they play with lethal weapons and abuse their body. Sanctity of marriage and enduring moral values have no place. An excellent poem on the ills of the age! ! Happy New Year, Sir!

Standards certainly seem to have dropped these days Joseph, and this is very well expressed in this excellent poem.
