Today's News is weighed down by hardened, old ways
And today's fashions pick at yesterday's bones.
Secular songs have replaced rich hymns of praise.
Many merely try to keep up with the Joneses.
Still, not to worry, there is always the Arts;
As some are still seeking out a greater light.
Whilst others are now closing their minds and hearts.
They stubbornly follow the shadows of night
Like Plato's duped cave dwellers. O it looks like
They will never glimpse the light! That is why we
Few poets must struggle on with all our might
To create fresh forms that abound with beauty.
And perhaps one day our works may edify,
All those who still dwell in crude, familiar sties.
