But I dream I have ascended the steps To know What makes a Tower a Tower. Is it its stone or brick Cement or color Or its architecture? Tower of humility..... the virtue of humility leads you to God and to human beings. tony

Bharati, this is an amazing poem in both senses 1) you fully expressed your appreciation of me as a poet and friend, as 22 readers confirm 2) I am stunned by this high regard: Do I really deserve it? I don't know the answer to that question and no one in my position does. It's not for the individual poet to judge himself, so each of us has to rely on others to assess our achievement. And you have consistently given me the most wonderful support and regard. I strive to be worthy of it. 3) And a 3rd point: I have a close friend who does not wrote poems but he is a master of poetry interpretation and public reading. Furthermore he is a very close friend of ROBERT BLY, the Minnesota poet whom all of us revere. Bly has never seen my poems, Robert could but doesn't show them to Bly and he has never expressed any genuine regard for my poems. When I read one he immediately tells me what to drop or change but never what he thinks is good. In fact, he has almost nothing to say. I assume he sees my poems in the light of Robert Bly's and finds them inferior. But comparing my effort to one America's leading modern poets like Bly is extremely unfair. In fact, there are only two people near me who express any regard for my poems, mostly they just seem uninterested, including my twin sister and her husband. So you can see how differently my experience is with you - and the others at PH who read your poem about me and write wonderful things. I am blessed by your high opinion and enthusiasm. It's because if yiou that I can say proudly: I write poems and it's a very rewarding pastime.

I must thank all the poets who have given their comments on this poem.It is not so much about my poetic craft, but the adore and respect that you deserve for your poetry and your commitment to the world of poetry as well as your inspiration for others that this poem attracted so many comments from very great poets of this Site. As you said it is extremely unfair to compare a new poet with a leading poet like Robert Bly and reject his poem as unworthy. It is because of your determination and your love for poetry that you enrich the world with your wonderful poems.. Yes, we are lucky to be here in Poem Hunter and get to meet inspiring poets around the world who really appreciate poetry.

A towering tribute (couldn't resist *smile*) to an epic genius. I love the counterpoint of wisdom and humility, for humility is truly the gateway to wisdom, and indeed such a fitting synopsis of Daniel's character so readily evinced in all of his work in this community. A fitting tribute to a great writer, and we are all enriched by both. Bravo, good poet!

typically, i would use Birthday, but Birth Day will work well also. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I have not been Nearer to your proximity...............i suggest that, UNLESS you are using proximity in the 'archaic sense'******, ................................................you are not using proximity properly. you would be saying: 'Nearer to your ...................................................nearness' ............that wouldn't seem to be proper English to me. :) :) prox·im·i·ty präkˈsimədē/ noun noun: proximity nearness in space, time, or relationship. do not operate microphones in close proximity to television sets synonyms: closeness, nearness, propinquity; accessibility, handiness; ****** archaic vicinity the proximity to her parents' home was a consideration ===================================== this is a lovely poem. the use of his 'last name' [Brick/brick] is clever. i won't be 70 for another year and couple of weeks, ..............if i make it that far! ! ! instead of a poem, could you PLEASE send me a chocolate cake? please? to MyPoemList. but check out the use of proximity. ;) this is a tad/bit/little long for a showcase, but i could squeeze it in someday. let me know if you would like that. and in the U.S. i would use 6-10-2017. did you know that? ha ha! bri :) some favorite lines: I can not be nearer to the Tower But I am glad The sky and the transparent air That touch the Tower Also touch me.

It took me some time to understand the difference between 10-6-2017 and 6-10-2017 in Indian/American context. it is better not to confuse the readers more and use 10th June 2017 in its place. I am getting ready to send you a big chocolate cake on your 70th Birth day. Please remind me before hand. Thanks for taking the poem to your favorite list and consideration for your future Show-case.

What an amazing tribute to a fellow poet. Indeed, Daniel is a towering figure in the world of poetry. The metaphor of tower is just so apt, high yet so down-to-earth. Touching the sky but rooted in ground. Perfectly describes his humble personality. A lovely birthday wish.10
