This is a celebration of the love of two human beings but the status of the Beloved in the Lover's estimation is so exalted he can be addressed as YOU ARE MY GOD. And he seems to be very worthy of this enhanced love because of his fidelity, kindness, persistence: he is a man without human stain or flaw. And he conveys a spiritual as well as physical presence: YOU ARE NEAR, EVEN WHEN YOU ARE FAR. Despite this intimacy, the Lover feels she is not his equal: He is a GIANT, he represents her OVER-LIFE, she is only a CHILD compared to the fullness of his being. But in the last line all of this grandeur is diminished and the Beloved is just a man walking down A SIMPLE SMALL ROAD to be reunited with his human lover. There is an irreducible mystery in this love affair; it transcends the common place and reveals a heightened reality.
