To See Poem by Sharon Namwalizi

To See

I haven't looked and seen people in a while.
Nowadays, all we do are quick glances
so we're not called weird.
But honestly—
I like the feeling I get when I look at someone
and actually see them.

It gives room to marvel at how unique
God has made us all.
We get to see beauty in our differences
and our similarities.
And we are present.

Sight—
a great thing we take for granted.
We rush interactions
and aren't really present,
lost in the wonderland of our minds.
But we forget
that some of our best thoughts
are born from what we've seen.

So the next time we meet,
I don't just want to look at you—
I want to see you.

And by seeing,
let's not limit it to people.
God made so much beauty.
Allow yourself to soak that in,
engrave it into your memory.

It amazes me how much things change,
and how some don't.
The world has so much to offer.
All you have to do is look up—
then look around.
And thank me later.
