To My Son Comments

IF this poem is actually directed towards the author’s or someone else’s “son” or anyone else, it sounds as though it is meant to encourage the “son” to press on with life despite the obstacles to happiness ………….. to “live as if you have nothing to lose”. That advice, if taken literally, could lead to great happiness OR great sorrow, to a comfortable life or to a prison cell.
