To My Father Poem by Safiyyah Manjra

After all of this time together,
I can't find the words to gather.
But I think it's important to let you know how thankful I am to call you my father.

You have watched me slept,
Took the first step,
You were always there with me,
In all honesty.

We struggled together,
Though arguments seemed to last forever.
You have done work most purely,
Even through difficult times you supported me whole heartedly.

Remember the time when I was fifteen and you said,
"Love, I'll be in debt for the next five years"
It seemed to give you multiple grey hairs,
I looked in you and stood there in tears.

Somehow you managed to fund my entire education,
Repay debts by submission.
Told me I'm a little genius who causes corrosion.
Whatever career I pursue,
Make sure I do it not because of you.

Your words of wisdom,
Have helped me build my entire kingdom.
Thank you for showing me.
How wonderful of a daughter I can be.
I hope I am always there to honour you fully.
