Brilliant, Richard. It is in such memories and relationships that we see we are made and shaped even well after we enter this world.

I enjoyed this reminiscence of days with your father, Richard. It's strange how fishing is so often a linchpin in a father-son relationship. I too remember the worms.

I'm glad that you enjoyed it, John. I still remember waking up so early to catch those slimy worms. Well worth it because we caught some pretty darn good fish!

As we grow older, our attachment to parents become stronger especially after they are deceased! Memories too lengthen like evening shadows! This poem is a beautiful sharing of your childhood activities with your father. It is evident that he was not merely a loving father, but a sweet companion too who played with you and shared stories with you! This loving tribute is the overflowing of love towards a father from a dear son!

This amplifies the earlier homage I read with more shared activities. I can feel the sheer excitement of you the child in you as you record the variety of activities shared. Your skinny line makes each event stand out in its special-ness In total your poem shows a life busy with activity but shining through all that bustle is a father's simple, uncomplicated love for his son and years later your poems show your simple, uncomplicated love of him. It's a closed circle of love rolling through time.

hey, richard! growing up as i and my father did in inner city new york, i don't have fishing memories. i do remember, however, my father taking my twin brother and me to teach us baseball. i can remember my father getting frustrated even then, but i realize at this point in my life, a father myself, that it was love that made him want to, that made him take the time to do it. -gk
