Wow! This is a powerful poem. You have expressed your appreciation of Brodsky's poems but also - and most forcefully - of his very being as a poet. I thought I appreciated him as a poet and person, but my appreciation pales next to yours. I say this without any envy, not at all, you are are revealing depths of his personality for me to grasp. The last half of your poem is a visionary narrative of Brodsky's (and your) ascent to heaven. And it's breath-takingly beautiful. And not once did I think METAPHOR because I grasped this ascent as TRUTH.
