To Be Born Is To Be Alive Poem by Dorsey Baker

To Be Born Is To Be Alive

I wasn't born
with no chip
on my shoulder
I wasn't born
with no silver spoon
in my mouth
I wasn't born
with no diamond
ring upon my finger
no pearls
hanging around
my neck
but I was born
with the potential
to be what any
human being
can be
as a human being
in a world
full of mountains to climb
