To Be Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

To Be

To be

Shakespeare wrote great:
"To be? Or not to be?

Now, looking at Hudson,
Hudson Bay,
Comes to me a question:
"What was that? "
"Who shall say? "

The Natives?
Settlers?

Settlers won the wars,
Bloodshed and murder,
Like beasts and savages!

They left their footprints,
In reserves, schooling,
Most of all, in cheating…

And Bay was a column,
Firm stud,
Held a roof on hollows!

I recall Bill McLean,
And female hostages,
And the lies spread,
on Big Bear, Wandering,
By the Herald and others!

Wise knew about now,
Footprints in this dust,
Had to go; now is gone!

What is left?
Buffalo?
Or beaver?

Of course, not Hudson Bay!
Of course, not Hudson Bay!
Of course, not Hudson Bay!
