Soran! Riding horses can be tame and without strife- - -it; s those other days that send our bodies home with an extra bruise or two that make us wonder about our life-style not that I would ever willingly stop riding those magnificent animals with those usually kind eyes! ! ! Thank you for the 10+ on my fall from grace! ! !

In this attractive and powerful poem, the poet begins with philosophical questions, perhaps she has reached her convincing answers through her rich experiences and intense readings, then we come to the second part of the poem, which gives us her conclusions inspired by poetic images of the elements and creatures, and thus the poet makes us live an atmosphere charged with adventure and logic Inside this wonderful masterpiece of work 10+ and onto my list

I felt I would go mad it made me feel so anonymous So I rode into the desert on my horse Thinking we would take a different course Up the steep flank of a sand hill He was full of strength, he would not be rode to a standstill

Very funny! ! That's quite the punchline at the end lol. And this is a reminder to be grateful for what you have - even if what you have seems to be a boring non-existential existence!

There is a lot to be thankful for in our humdrum lives, that's for sure.. some excitement just isn't worth the adrenaline

There's a little bit of cowgirl humor in this. Maybe a cowperson has an spell of doldrums or mugwumps now and then, but you have to respect that, because everything he/she does is on a big scale.

haahahahahahaha. The doldrums are bad enough but those dad-gum mugwumps are plumb awful! ! ! If you like my cowgirl tales and chills and spills and laughter, I have a zillion memories I could share! ! !

Part Deux: By the way, as I reread this poem, I got the idea that it was almost a Dr. Seuss for adults...I could hear Karloff's voice offering a reading....very sly, Susan.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha- - well, I used to read stories to elementary aged children at lunch time and the kids seemed to enjoy the heck out of it- even very athletic boys chose to stay in and listen rather than go out and play! Those were the days! ! !

Susan, this gem goes right to myfavourites. You illustrate and underscore that old injunction that chasing away the blues means just getting up and doing something. But there is a serious side....that revelation, that insight in your words that suggests much of what causes grief is generated if not created within. Very thought provoking.

My dear friend, thank you for placing this among your favorites! When I get the blues nowadays, it is usually because I am thinking too too much about me and not nearly enough about other people. [Or horses! - Horses cure the blues except when those great big creatures die and then they leave such a great big hole in the heart.

So there are people on this planet who can make dying people regain an urge to live, with a for life and a pure madness to write again. And there are people who not only ride the thrones of their readers' hearts, but also on adventuring horses, that too secretly. Today I got my curious mind settle after going through this cute poem, dear Susan..the secret behind the horse in your snap on the poet's page. Thanks for the poem.10+++++ Subhas

Thank you for all those kind words! ! ! I must tell you though that the paint horse in the picture did not belong to me- he belonged to a man who used him to run-down wild horses on the Indian Reservation. He let me ride this horse all over the place- on this day I was riding him in a parade and I was laughing because he'd fallen in love with my Mother's blonde hair and was nuzzling her!

The horse in this poem was a black Quarter Horse with a star, strip, and snip on his face and ran triple A time on the track before we bought him. I loved riding him [a dicey thing to do because he could launch into top speed in two strides from a standstill. Well he launched when the pheasant hit him in the belly but bless his heart he stopped running and turned his head and looked at me on the ground and I swear his brown eyes sparkled with laughter.

Hi Susan, I religiously follow your poems. But how did I miss this one! When I see your photo with a horse, I always think, Susan must be very brave so as to ride horses. And I think, brave people rarely feel bored because they go for adventures. Enjoyed your poem thoroughly.

Hey, sweet Bharati! WoW! ! ! I am going to get all swell-headed after such a huge compliment! ! ! I hope none of my poems are a disappointment because I know you are very very busy these days - -very deservedly busy with books and honors and accolades- -it is so satisfying to see your success and your talent recognized!

But the older a person gets the less you get to go riding every day for hours on beautiful end- -sigh, growing up often means a narrowing of life's fun and adventure and an expansion of housekeeping duties, and child rearing, and wistfulness! ! ! Thank you for thinking me a brave person - I must admit a spider sends me screaming through the house! ! !

Horses have been a beautiful part of my life- unlike people, they are honest. If they like you, they nicker at you and love to follow you around. People on the other hand are full of pretense and hurtfulness for no reason at all that can be honestly justified. Thankfully the Lord has blessed me with friendships with good and kind and noble people here on PH and my church and down at the barn [and in the stalls and pastures]

How crushing and sapping of the spirit for life to be so grey. I love the remedy so delightfully penned. I felt the thrill and the race riding on a spirited horse and the fright and flight of adrenaline of the unexpected. Brings back beautiful 1971 memories as an 11yr old in Australia riding in the Ku-ring-gai Chase.10+++

Great poem and great humor. We all have our intakes with ennui and end up with some unexpected scenarios and boredom seems like a very pleasant thing then. A lifesaver! Thanks Susan for sharing!

Yes, one thing we should never do is to complain about being bored. Boredom means that we're safe... comfortable enough... all is peaceful and calm. I wish I were bored again.

Ennui is something we all humans dread! When feeling bored, look for a change. It could be a walk into the beach or into the heart of wilderness. But very few can enjoy a horse ride in a desert! Susan is a practiced equestrian! So she can do that.......! But if we try to get onto a horse, that will be the end of it! Beautiful write!

If you wished to ride, the horse would look into that gentle soul of yours and nicker for you to step aboard and he would treat you kindly and gently... and then if a pheasant blew up into his stomach and he leaped out from under you, he would feel so badly about it and nuzzle you asking for forgiveness... ;)

Ever so daring! ! ! .. And heartfelt too! ! ! .. Though, I am not as brave.. As You! ! ! .. I am sorry about the pheasant and the cacti too! ! ! .. I am glad You're alright! ! ! ..... I think I'd settle with starry nights! ! ! .. You have a sense of humour in this too.. :) Though if You were hurt.. We'd sure miss You! ! ! .. 10S Galore! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! +++++ saved Dear.... :)

Daring only in that I loved to ride - the first year I owned Black Polly I averaged a fall a day and that mare always ran back to the barn without me which resulted in miles of walking through sagebrush and sand. The black horse who leaped out from under me in this poem just stopped, turned his head to look at me and I swear he chuckled.

in my reply, I neglected to type in the word - -sans saddle- - If this is not taken into account, I would sound physically awkward instead of mentally deficient. Have to maintain though that riding is the best way to ride...

Rebecca Navarre 29 June 2018

I still say Wow and daring! ! ! .. Black Polly is a beautiful name! ! ! .. Though I don't know what a sans saddle is.. :) I didn't know you still rode. Even, Braver than I knew... Plz though, stay with us too! ! ! .. I think Crystals my dog, was laughing at me, as she watched me outside trying to get to my knees, than feet.. Thankfully I didn't have to walk back miles home, though... Endless 10S! ! ! .. Dear..

Susan Williams 29 June 2018

Flower dear, you tickle me! Sans saddle- -you were focused on a type of saddle. I was saying sans- as in without. Without saddle. All my riding days are indeed over- but I often live in the past... it was a much better place which tells me how awful the present is. We'll be selling our horse Rocky 2 soon- we can no longer afford him
