Nor can be spurred nor bestirred,
Time scarce can be pushed forward,
Nor yet can be pulled backward,
Time's but today's singing bird.

This is a translation of part of the verse from Mahabharata on time, oft quoted. Its transliteration is given as under:

kālah na parihāryah cha
na cha āvayati ati-kramah | Mahabharata |
