I bow before you lord Shiva
O  supreme and cosmic  truth,
I bow before you lord tryambaka 1
O mighty 3 eyed deity,
I salute you lord somashekhara 2
Bearer of the crescent moon;
Hail him mankind
For he is Neelakanta 3
Who stores fatal poison in his throat
And wears the dreaded serpent on his neck,
Endowed with matted hair
Which bears the sacred ganges
He holds the three gunas 4
Sattva 5, rajas 6 and thamas 7;
He the great lord of yogis
Sits couched on tiger skin to grind lust
He is Nataraja 8, the master of thandava9
