Three Poem by William Kofoed

Three

Summer sun
so high above
brightly shines
on grass so green

so near now
but still a ways
grows so close
perhaps today

words that are
carved in stone
say nothing of
what once was

flowers wilt
by teddy bears
hand drawn cards
stained with tears

a grassy plot
of virgin soil
that has been bought
for future need

days go by
and months do flee
before they come
and fall on knees

children laugh
and run about
and parents hush
as they grieve

plans are made
and costs are paid
as fear does grow
day by day

memories burn
and yet they fade
till grass and stone
alone they lay
