Thoughts Of A Day Poem by Jan E Smith

Thoughts Of A Day

Tonight while the world lay sleeping,
I thought about today.

The walk we took, the time we spent
and all you had to say.

My heart became sad and heavy,
then tears poured down my face.

Thoughts were fast and furious,
I couldn't slow the pace.

I pictured you as a child,
So young, so sweet and true.

How could your parents tell you
they never wanted you?

I thought about my children,
then thought about my past.

Actions speak louder than words,
but words seem to last.

I look at the world and it's beauty,
the flowers, trees and sky,

the small children, water, animals
and all the birds that fly.

With all that God created and all
there is to see,

why do some people live to fight
and dwell in misery?

My friend, I'm sorry for your past.
I wish I could make it good.

But, I know the pain, I've lived it too
and no-one ever could.

So before I go to sleep tonight
a prayer for you I'll say.

God bless my friend and keep
him safe for yet another day.
