Nobody needs a list of what the thorns are: we all know them. You speak of the thorns as a kind of poetic shorthand, and for me it works, because you have set the stage. We wake in the morning trailing the debris of broken dreams; our morning routines are like rituals to rouse ourselves for the day's efforts. Thorns are dreams breaking, heart turning pale and inspiration being lost.
