What a wonderful phrase 'the heavy rug of remorse' introduced at exactly the right point in the poem

The end comes rather too abruptly...

This poem is not just stoic it is strength, personal, singularly and defiantly. The second last line is brilliant. One solitary isolated letter, the word and letter I in capital as a lone silhouette distant and staunchly alone. Tapered off in thought or presence or life to be interpreted as life comes or thoughts guide the motion, the thought, future direction, alone to choose and dream. The 3 full stops also tapering from the solitary figure like a shadow from a lone stature standing strong and tall, a beautiful and perfect literary and metaphorical device. Then the last line of defiance isolated like a relationship cliche or graffiti on a wall where its writer has laid to rest a declaration like an inscription on a tombstone but will never return. A powerful and purposeful poem. Wonderful, pain filled and beautiful. I feel some shame at recognising so much beauty in such pain.
