This Hymn

This hymn must have stirred through churches
Like wildfire in the past
When reformation truth was preached
Hell's gate received a blast
For voices in accord arose
To sing our Lord's true praise
And still is sung unto this day
May Jesus Christ be praised

Still strong it stands our Fortress sure
The God of Abraham
Beside Him is none other there
He is the Great I Am
Praise God our God He changeth not
Yesterday... Today... Forever
And truth prevailed down through the ages
His Truth abides forever

The Spirit blessed to manufacture
This song within his heart
As Martin Luther's soul rehearsed
How God had played a part
And filled with joy mingled with awe
What Truth his soul had found
That Salvation was by grace through faith
His destiny... Heaven bound!

Now his soul could not refrain
From bursting forth with song
We the recipients of that blessing
As well we sing along
So praise You Father for that hymn
Still down through the ages sung
"A Mighty Fortress is Our God"
Let's sing it everyone!
