Thirsty But Cannot Drink Poem by Freeyad Ibrahim

Thirsty But Cannot Drink

Living near your beloved is all right
But living next to her with no right
to see her or to talk to her,
day or night
This is a deadly plight
To be justly compared to camels
In the desert walking nonestop
For weeks by day and night
In the scourching sun and burning sand
Carried with too heavy water skins
on their backs
toiling pushing forward with might
They are dying from thirst,
While they cannot reach the water
So close as their own backs
What a heartrendering sight!
