I had such difficulty with the mechanics of sonnet writing that I vowed never again... well, we'll see about never! ! ! ! Thank you for your encouragement, Soran, you make a difference when the inspiration is at low ebb. And thank you for the 10! ! ! !

Thank you, Tony, it is one of the smoothest poems I have ever written in contrast to the monstrous sonnet I once upon a time and never again wrote.

To write a sonnet with its parameter - ten syllables in a line and with rhyme scheme is difficult ofcourse but you have done it successfully, with humour you have inscribed in this poem is interesting. Let me try to write a sonnet. Thanks.

I adore 'poetic licence'....and..... I love Allison Vannest's words.... Poetry is anarchy. Learn the rules and break them. I guess I need to be a little more disciplined and write a sonnet...one day :)

Yes... one day... I use that a lot! That is what I like most in writing- -finding a rule and breaking it EFFECTIVELY.... :)

You can confidently try your hand on any thing Susan! But writing of a sonnet sticking to the strict norms is not a simple task! Confining each line to ten syllables and keeping the rhyme scheme is not that easy! Most of the sonnet writers of today over look the syllable count! Though I have written over 700 poems, there are hardly 5 sonnets and not a single ghazal! Sure, there is excitement in conquering the insurmountable! Wish you all the best Susan....! I know you are serious though you have presented the thing in a lighthearted vein!

I managed to write a sonnet once- -the most horrid thing ever penned. I should post it some time anonymously and watch people run screaming into the hills. I have tried other forms and enjoyed the experience. I salute you for writing 5! It is a noble thing you have done! ! ! Thank you for the encouragement!

I have translated Sonnets but only ever written one, a not very good one either! I don't think I am comfortable with iambics and I tend to write in a style that's more French than English so I avoid English formal verse mostly. A very funny poem!

Hey Tom, I will never compete for any sonnet honors but there are other poem styles that are beautiful and charm the soul, aren't there? Thank you for reading this.

Hahahahahaha. Teach me to open my mouth. For you, I promise I shall go find out what it is and how to write it and present a [probably mangled] form of one soon. Nosheen, I have told you before what a supportive and encouraging person you are- -and see, here you are encouraging me onwards at the risk of having to read something that will make you cringe. You are a brave being! ! Thank you!

Hey, you were about 1/2 way there! Susan, this is really funny. I thoroughly enjoyed it, even without sonnetification. Thanks for laugh, I've been smiling for the last 5 minutes. :)

I'm glad I made you laugh! Not only that I caused you to smile for 5 minutes. That's what I call positive results! I think it is easier to make people cry and life gives us enough to cry about so I would rather give my friends the gift of laughter once in a while so life will have a bit of contrast. Thanks Neal!
