You can have them all,
You can take it all today.
These things I have no need for,
These things I've kept away....
These things we find of interest,
These things we seek with glee.
In the great scheme of things,
They mean so little to me.
As I grow older and look around,
I see people's avarice so unabated.
Their demons demand the latest gizmo,
This take take take is so hated.
Hey! It's shiny and new!
Hey! I want one too!
Lend me the money!
For I haven't any!
Their choice is made,
Their money spent,
They have none left,
To pay the rent.
They are eBay's favourite son,
No, Oh my God what have I done!
A nasty letter from their bank,
They don't give a damn or a swank.
They never care,
It's day by day.
But perhaps one day,
They'll have to pay.
But credit's easy,
Credit's fun!
The more you borrow,
More time in the sun!
They do not care,
It's gain gain gain!
Their greedy plans,
I so disdain.
There's no space left on our floor!
Why should we donate it to the poor!
When all we crave is more more more!
Oh these sparkly things we so adore!
For on this issue,
I've dropped the ball.
A harsh lesson,
For one and all....
For I must admit and to my shame,
When I was young I played their game.
And damn the homeless in the rain!
For of their plight I feel no shame!
They huddle together on a cold wet night!
Again I feel no sympathy for their plight!
But now I changed and seen the light,
No longer lusting after things so bright.
My wants are few,
Needing nothing new.
For a person can change.
And that's up to...
You.
