these eyes, the spyglass of tomorrow's horizons
gazing today, even now, bronze-bound discs of living glass,
glazed and rimmed in the hazing blast of yesterday's furnace
to see, not merely with eyes of insentient flesh, but with sight

To see with eyes unclouded by the doubt of those whose envy strands the ligatures that would bind my future to my past. No, through the murky shadows of today, I force these eyes to look upon, to discern that coruscating vision of tomorrow, forging triumph instead from every painful stride of yesterday. Beautifully Expressed.... Congratulations for the poem of the day
- -To see with eyes unclouded by the doubt of those whose envy strands the ligatures that would bind my future to my past.- - Wow.... a wonderful poem with great truth, It takes the reader into a state of meditation. The lines quoted here should be an eye opener for many. Congratulations......
Ah, Seamus O'Brian, you have a poet's heart indeed! Wonderfully expressed, with power and passion...
My dear colleagues, As we stumble together, somehow bound together from every corner of this world, following the canyons of our various lives, sometimes seeing the path plainly illuminated before us, sometimes struggling blindly, feeling our way with fingertips in the darkness, each of us separate and distinctly unique, but bound together in one heart. All with such a varied perspective of the universe, and beautifully individual in our expression of what we have found along the way, what we have seen, what we have felt. Beauty and pain, passion and loneliness, power and fear, all of the fullness of the experience of living, poured out in our words and painted in our poetry. All so different, and yet all so powerfully united in our collaboration of art. I am humbled, and yet so greatly privileged to collaborate with you, to share this journey with you. Thank you all for making my world more beautiful.
Discs of living glass indeed! Pressing forward lead by vision not looking back is so elegantly expressed in poetic beauty! ! Great poetry and congratulations on Poem of the day, so well deserved my friend.
Tomorrow's horizons! ! Thanks for sharing this poem with us.
Excellently penned. These eyes that see beyond the present that could see into the past and the future.
A beauty. One of the great poems I have read recent times. Congrats.
A great day of celebrating your poetic excellence. A dust particle rarely can dare describe the dimensions of a mountain! Congratulations revered Sir for the POTD. Regards. Subhas
Neal, for a third time (and gladly) I get to write a comment. This is surely an instance when the member Poem of the Day is based on merit and the recognition most especially deserved. As you would say, Bravo! Your brother-in-the-craft, Glen
This is such a beautifully written poem. I love the dramatic and strong expression in the writing and also the use of original words. Eyes as a spyglass of tomorrow's horizons, freed from the memories of the past, able to see anew, and in every way. What a dream! Thanks for sharing. So well done. Loved this one.
a truly wonderful and inspirational write of seeing then believing in a better future? ............superbly written Seamus
A plaintive poem poured out, yet in the end, a satisfying conclusion. What a Wordsmith you are, Mr. O' Brian! This one held my attention all the way through. Congratulations on Poem of the Day, and Well Done, you! !

Revisiting. Congratulations for being selected this poem as the P.O.D.
Very beautiful poem is chosen for the poem of the day. Eyes are very important parts of body that carry vision. CONGRATULATIONS! Already I have read and reviewed this poem much earlier. This is my revisiting to this poem and I feel very happy seeing this poem on daily screen.
so, neal, i was just checking to see your response, and i reread your poem, and this is another i have to say, dang! this is strong stuff. this line most got me this time— kilned in every crucible stumble of a pilgrim's broken journey... this is dense, with a great use of kiln as a verb, of alliteration, and so characteristically you. and dense as it is, it doesn't get bogged down—there's still strong forward movement. and if coruscating was already part of that huge bundle that is your vocabulary, i'm impressed. —i just looked it up for the second time. on developing or evolving vision, you may find my poem aging as ascent interesting if you haven't already read it. i look forward to hearing from you during this respite. glen
the challenge of directing our hearts. two scripture passages come to mind, neal, from philippians 3 and proverbs 4: 23: 12-14 I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back. 15-16 So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it. Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts. grace lift your eyes and all of you, neal—always. glen
Such invocative correlation with some of my favorite passages, Glen. Good to hear from you, and apologies for the delayed response. Between hurricanes and relocations I have been forced away from writing and literary contemplations, but it is good to come back for a respite. And to find stalwart writers still at work. Thanks again, Glen, and I look forward to see what you've been up to.
Wonderful writing Seamus 10 out of 10 THANK YOU FOR SHARING MARIO ODEKERKEN
