There Is A Disease Poem by Charles Wamuti

There Is A Disease

There is a disease,
Many know about it,
But few understand it,
Not even the sufferer gets it.

From the inside it consumes,
Staying stealthy like a cat,
Driving the sufferer insane,
Though they feel they are not in pain.

It hurts their families,
Friends are afflicted,
Like a cyclone the sufferer becomes,
Destroying everything in their path.

Unlike cancer it has no empathy nor sympathy,
'Like whomever stopped', the sufferer is told,
With the disease jobs are lost, families broken,
Its name is Addiction.
