I think this poem is a well-thought-out demolition, by the Irish bard, of the ancient Hebrew belief in the Firmament (see Genesis) , as the best way they had, to understand what was going on in the sky.

Wherever you copied this from, the last line is wrong. It quite obviously doesn't scan the way you have it (any poets here?) and should be That's why rain is thin.
