The Year Of Living Dangerously Poem by Shaun Cronick

The Year Of Living Dangerously

Rating: 5.0

It's touch and go out there.
Well it used to be once.
Not any more.
Certainly not today.
This month.
This year.
This deadly year.
No playful kisses goodbye.
No warm hugging.
No friendly handshakes.
No physical interaction any more.
Keep your distance.
Your social distance.
At all times.
Wear a mask.
Your mask.
And try to feel better about it.
Or try hard to feel better about it.
About things.
About life.
About the loved ones around you.
Then about yourself.
Asking yourself every day how much longer.
Just how much longer.
Just got to knuckle down and take it.
To endure.
The unendurable.
Like everyone else.
Stay healthy.
Stay alive.
This dangerous year will soon end.
A new one to soon dawn.
With a cure to make it better.
An injection of hope.
To get things back on track.
No more masks.
For everyone.
We hope.

Great free verse poem Shaun..with lots of anaphora for dramatic effect i, e ' This, ' ' No', ' About' ' Stay'. As a rather anti - social creature myself, I haven't found things too bad. Indeed, I've got a lot of things done, that I normally wouldn't have been able to do ordinarily. Nevertheless, my rather gregarious sister is currently suffering badly. She really misses going out with friends, shopping etc. Anyway, ' it's a please find a cure inspired five from me!

I concur with your wonderful thoughts, Shaun. A beautifully crafted poem full of hope. Poignant yet it gives us the strength to conquer darkness to be able to see a better tomorrow. A very apt write for this great pandemic, in this time of uncertainty. Five Stars and to my Poem List.
