Please read "Sarlet Letter" because I would love to think that humanity, human history can be divided into "Before Scarlet Letter" and After that
The novel "Bhrasht" has been translated into English and many other languages. So, May I exhort my readers to go for bothe novels. Please read.
It's little wonder a man aged 90-99 wouldn't survive long married to a preteen. Ok, so the 'rules' were NOT always followed in 'those days' either. : ) bri
I didn't care much for the poem, but I 'LOVED' all of your Poet's Notes. THANKS! I read The Scarlet Letter MANY YEARS AGO, thinking it had to do with the colors of the alpahbet; boy, was I fooled! ! ! : )
I may have been robbed of a comment I tried to send when PH signed me out without telling me, which now happens if I stop being active for a while on a page.; (
Typo: your works reflect your stature as a learned person
I am going through your works. I find all your works are based on your profound learning of different social issues and critical dimensions of social trends. Your works reflects your stature as learned person dear Unnikrishnan ji..liked this poem.
Thank you, Dilipji for the most valuable comments on my poems. True Sir, I read and continue to read, whenever I find time and whatever I can lay my hands on.
The world was only darker For this woman's beauty.....beautifully expressed. A wonder poem....appreciated. Top score!

Thank you Becca for the insightful comment. Though centuries apart, we find that women were meted out the same treatment by the society, by law, by the authorities. This is what provoked the poem.
A scathing comment on the society's double standards when it comes to women. Kudos.
Hi Nosheen, Good to see you here. Thank you for your appreciation. It continues to be a man’s world......
By the by, have you read the novel “The Scarlet Letter “? If not, may I invite you to read it now. As a novel, it is not a very artistic work. Nor is its aesthetic quality commendable. Of course, my opinion. But as a social critique, a comment on humanity, it is a most valuable piece. Please do read.
A very literate poem! ! ! I enjoyed tremendously. Do more PLEASE! ! ! ! ! !
Thank you Susie for the lovely comments. And thanks for the 10 too
I beg pardon of the fellow poets for posting a “Poet’s Note” many times bigger than the poem itself. But I could not resist the temptation. I hope my soft introduction of both the novels prompts at least a fraction of you to read them.
Your Poet's Note is always informative and helpful! ! Do not change anything you are doing for us. We appreciate these Notes so much!
Has Hester sinned alone? A pertinent question. In every adulterous relationship, there is involvement of both a man and a woman. But the woman is always blamed and subjected to punishment and ostracisation
Hi Bharati, The question is quite pertinent. The systems have decayed to a state what you have stated. But the old days were different. In the case of Hester, the father of her child was spared only because she refused to divulge his identity. In the case of Tatri, sixty five men of eminence against whom adultery was proved, were excommunicated with her. This included Gopalamenon, father of Tamil film hero of the yore, MGR.
The judge who indicts a woman for adultery is always man, both at Thrissur and Massachusetts. Every society is chauvinist.
