The world it is a-changing
becoming quite noticeable now
slowly at first, the signs not blaring
but now with more momentum
it is, slowly, but surely.
Decades of by-gone social habits
transforming,
transforming into a new way of life
the life of the times of today.
Gone are the graces of etiquette
the respect of social dress
where manners were of regard
families were a family,
kids respected elders
and school was a place to learn.
Always, as each generation goes by
brings new modes and ways.
Today is no different, new rules transpire
the way of life melds with the times
the good, the bad, the indifferent.
Clothing is what you want to make it,
dress up or down whatever the mood,
life is less regimented
work often to be done from home
avoiding crowded transport,
enjoying freedom of more leisure hours.
But there also lies the bad,
drug use by young and old alike
rising crime and gang warfare
homes priced beyond many a pocket
food insecurity for the lesser well off,
world uncertainties, conflicts
inflation, deflation.
Analyzing it, nothing new really,
it has always been like this
whether in ages gone by or now
we just live in the time we live.

Excellent assessment of the past and present. Perhaps the only things that have really changed is some people's obsession with social media and the younger generation's obsession with phones and the internet.
