The Wishing Well Poem by Bryan Taplits

The Wishing Well

I coveted you from afar my dear
I wished that you were 'we',
I longed for your presence-
wished I had rubies for presents-
And at my side I pictured that you always would be.
But away you went, a vaulting seraph-
and you flew another way-
An angel winging and fleeing-
and riotously careening-
When I merely wanted you to stay.
And now I'm afraid that time has run,
Outpacing me with its beats
I await for you still
but am doubtful you will-
ever await for me.
Yes, you'll navigate towards a suitor sure to be more fleet
(One who looks just like me) ,
And has a future that advances -
And does not do runaway dances-
But has an ardor that will never be as sweet!
