To me the poem is about setting your lifetime goal and continually working toward that goal.

I believe this poem is a heartfelt description of the way Ella Wilcox felt about her life. It is an individuals personal determination that sets their path through life. Let us not forget that circumstance does play a role in the life we choose but ultimately we can decide which way to go.
